90% of San Francisco’s Marina residents already live in multi-family housing
The average age is 36 yrs old
CEQA doesn't block housing; it blocks unreviewed housing. Thousands of housing projects go through CEQA review and get built every year.
The question isn't whether housing gets built; it's whether it gets built responsibly.
Why is CEQA so important for the Marina Safeway location?
1. The site has documented toxic contamination that the developer has refused to fully test until after the project is approved and the grocery store is no longer operating.
2. California’s toxics regulators say that it doesn’t qualify for streamlined approval.
3. It fails the state's own AB 2011 eligibility rules, since more than 50% of its border sits against National Park Service and harbor land, not urban development.
4. While sitting in a flood and earthquake liquefaction zone, the project also violates the district’s zoning height limits by five to six times, casting new shadows over public parkland by hundreds of feet.
5. It’s not OK for our elected officials to bend the law to benefit a private equity company- Skipping required CEQA review endangers the health, welfare, and safety of current residents of the Marina, future residents of the Project, workers on the Project, and bystanders to the construction.
